An individual at this level is expected to:

  • Have technical proficiency in areas of the firm’s practice from which the person has developed (Tax, Audit, Accounting, Municipal, Automotive, etc.).  They should demonstrate the ability to develop or adapt firm approaches to those categories to better achieve firm goals, solve new problems arising for firm or clients in above areas and/or communicate them to the partner(s) and maximize the utilization of computer software and programs for better efficiency. 
  • To oversee multiple jobs or projects at once by monitoring seniors’ progress to completion of engagements and keep partners appraised of progress.  This includes the managing of clients by developing and monitoring budgets along with scheduling staff, coordinating and cooperating with other sections of the firm to communicate administrative staff-needs, deadlines and responsibilities, staffing needs (consistent with varying busy seasons of the firm) and consistency of procedures and approaches.
  • Be a leader by having abilities which would include forward thinking, looking ahead for upcoming problems (FASB’s, GASB’s, SAS’s, Tax Laws), selling the firm by being an enthusiastic promoter of firm’s positive attributes, being a backup-capable of stepping in for a partner in his/her absence, by planning to address new industry or firm issues, by setting a good example to staff and clientele (appearance, work habits, punctuality and timely completion of projects), by exhibiting sound discretion (maintaining firm confidences, correcting staff deficiencies and errors and controlling rumors and gossip) and by having a take charge attitude.
